The great vines among the blazing volcanoes
Most of the people when they hear Santorini island, the magnificent view of the famous Caldera comes in mind. It's true that this view is breathtaking and no one should blame them for thinking that, but here at Tailored Myth we want to show you what really made Santorini famous and recognizable amongst the islands in Mediterranean, and this is the wine that Santorini produces.
The famous wine produced in Santorini is "Assyrtiko", it's white and is the island's heart in a bottle. A taste of the wine conveys a fresh hit of citrus with the scent of the sea and the cliffs that encompass the water. In every bottle that you open, you taste the paradise of this island. All around the island you can find these wines and they cost approximately twenty bucks.
While 'Assyrtiko' from Santorini may appear like another wine to most, the starting point of Santorini's wine culture backpedals to old times. At the time of the control of the Venetian between fourteenth and sixteenth century, Santorini was delivering the most significant wine in all of Europe. And after that, similar to all things, the Assyrtiko left style, and Santorini wine tumbled off the guide for several hundred years, with the island's neighbors in Italy, France and Spain assuming all the acknowledgment for phenomenal wine.
In the twentieth century, Greek wine started to rise on the American market because migrants started going to the US and opened many restaurants throughout the nation. The problem was that the wine these people took wasn't truly a wine that should represent the country but it was a 'retsina'. 'Retsina' is a traditional wine enhanced with pine resin, pleasing to some, but unpleasing to many. This lead to labeling all Greek wines as bad wines, yet at the same time Santorini's vineyards kept on developing their Assyrtiko grapes and deliver incredible juice.
A standout amongst the most stunning things to notice when you visit a winery in Santorini is the way the vines develop. Most vineyards around the world, develop win in lines along trellises, but in Santorini the production is different. The vines develop in tight clusters, stuffed near the earth along the stones, as though looking for as much shelter as they can get from the solid gusts of ocean air. It is this ocean air, alongside the dirt that is rich in volcanic powder that gives the reviving sharpness for which the wine has turned out to be so notable. Numerous think that it is this volcanic ash that permits the grapes developed on Santorini to hold their sharpness.
Here, at Tailored Myth we suggest you to visit Santorini island and don't leave the island without tasting this delicious wine. We are almost sure you will take some bottles with you on your way home.
